THAT'S FOR SURE (Johnny Mercer (m & l) ) As sung by Margaret Whiting with the Mellowmen < 100 The Original Tracks - Remastered > Released May 2013 Also sung by: Phil Silvers It's love and that's for sure L'amour, toujours, for sure Besides that fine old animal urge This feeling is virgin pure. You're mine and that's ideal I'm thine and that's for real Let's sing the sweetest words that we know To 'Papa Mendelssohn's' overture. For keeps, for rich, or poor And that's for sure. (bridge) You're mine and that's ideal I'm thine and that's for real Let's sing the sweetest words that we know To 'Papa Mendelssohn's' overture. For keeps, for rich, or poor And that's for sure. Notes: Margaret Whiting, daughter of songwriter Richard Whiting, was a 1940s/50s/60s pop, jazz, C & W singer and TV personality. She was born in Detroit USA. Her voice was wonderfully mellow, particularly in the lower registers, and an attraction for many. She had a number of hit recordings and continued to entertain until the 1990s. She was known by her adoring fans as the voice of MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT, the work of Blackburn/Suessdorf which her mentor, Johnny Mercer first suggested she record. She first sang for Mercer when she was seven years old and he eventually signed her as one of his first recording artists in the early 1940s. This song ultimately became a huge hit and over the years, a picturesque all time standard. This music/lyric is part of the original cast production of 'Top Banana' which was a 1951 Broadway musical comedy starring Phil Silvers (of early television Sgt. Ernest Bilko fame (1955) ).
